VW Golf SUV comes as the 2018 VW T-Roc

The crossover and SUV boom also influenced VW and we saw how this brand entered the US market with the full-size Atlas. However, the Tiguan is also expanding the room for the third row of seats and redesigned Touareg is also arriving. But the wave of SUVs coming front the Volkswagen doesn’t stop there as this auto giant has more in the plan. Namely, VW is shifting course toward smaller models and next model will expand brand’s Golf lineup. The new VW Golf SUV was actually previewed by the T-Roc concept model and VW will market this model as the 2018 Volkswagen T-Roc in order to prevent naming confusion and to put focus on this model instead of the immensely popular Golf.

VW Golf SUV: Platform, Design

The new VW Golf SUV will be the compact and agile crossover based on Golf’s seventh generation model. That means, of course, that versatile MQB platform will be the foundation of this model and dimensions should stay close to the T-Roc concept car. This model presented at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show has a 4, 179 mm in length while with width is 1831 mm and height 1501 mm.

On the other hand, unlike the concept car, the T-Roc will go to the production with five doors layout and fixed roof instead of concept’s two door and lift-off roof setup. The production version will also use the hexagonal grille with the horizontal slats in place of honeycomb pattern of the T-Roc concept model. However, the honeycomb mesh will be seen on the front bumper openings.

The model will also look nice from the profile side thanks to the muscular fender flares and strong creases running over the model’s length. The rear side will also feature sports flair with the aggressive bumper and recessed tailgate. The raked rear glass, nice taillights and rear spoiler will also add to its sporty character.

You will feel like in the Golf!

Interior of the new Golf SUV will provide adequate space for adults in both seating rows and design will follow Golf’s path. The model will be available with the 10.3-inch info display and the center cluster will house a 9.2-inch touchscreen interface with gesture and voice controls.

The model will also include leather seats, automatic climate, multi-functional steering wheel and pretty much similar convenience, tech and safety features like the newest Golf model.

VW Golf SUV: Powertrains

In the engine department, the VW Golf SUV will offer the three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with the displacements ranging from 1.0 to 2.0-liters.

The gas-sipping engines will come in several options. A 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo will produce around 113 ponies. A 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI should come in 128 and 148 hp versions. The most powerful petrol, a 2.0-liter turbo four will provide around 242 hp.

A diesel range should include 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder units. Expect the latter to produce around 184 hp.

The transmission system will come in form of the six-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. This well-rounded SUV will be front-wheel drive by default and 4Motion all-wheel drive will be an option or standard on some versions.
