Toyota Land Cruiser takes the form of the luxury SUV with the truck’s roots and plenty of power from the V-8 engine. The model can go over anything and still provide a soft ride. The comfortable interior and reputation are also on its side.
The legendary Land Cruiser still soldiers in its sixth generation which dates back to 2008 and the model lives on two facelifts and limited annual upgrades in the meantime. Toyota tries also to keep the interest on model with the frequent launch of the special edition virions. There won’t be much difference with the 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser as the things now stand.
The new special edition version will appear for the new model year and reports don’t promise much more from the 2020 version. However, the new generation Land Cruiser is on the way as the recent reports claim. Among the big upgrades should be a new ladder-frame chassis while model should stay in similar dimensions. The next generation Land Cruiser is also reported to switch to the new twin-turbo V-6 engine sourced from the Lexus LS 500.
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser: Design
The 2020 Toyota Land Cruise won’t change the way it looks except the new special edition version will appear with some unique styling touches.
The Land Cruiser reveals its truck heritage with a robust appearance and styling elements. They are plenty of curves and chrome on the model and it also has short overhangs and bumpers suited for the off-road duties. The ground clearance of 9 inches is also serviceable for the off-roading and the model also starts with the 18-inch wheels.
For the new model year, the Land Cruiser will offer the Heritage Edition model with bronze BBS 18-inch wheels with Toyota caps. This version will also stand out with the black-treated grille and darkened housings of the headlights and taillights. The new special edition version will be available in black and white color options.
There won’t be many new details inside the cabin of the 2020 Land Cruiser either.
The model has a modern dash designed with the well-grouped commands and large 9-inch center screen. The center console settles most of the off-road controls and model also uses different leather options and wood trim to improve interior quality and impression.
The new Heritage Edition uses black leather with contrasting stitching on the seats, door panels, center stack and console and steering wheel. It also gets cargo liner and all-weather floor mats.
The Land Cruiser also provides keyless entry and ignition, automatic wipers, four-zone climate control, a sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, power adjustable and heated steering wheel, etc.
Toyota also employs a number of electronic systems including a 9-inch screen-based infotainment system, wireless charging, voice controls and navigation, 14-speaker JBL sound system and more. The safety is also on the high alert with adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, parking sensors, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and surround view cameras.
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser: Performance
The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser won’t change mechanical equipment but the new generation version will switch to the new engine and underpinning.
The 2020 Land Cruiser will again get the power from a 5.7-liter V-8 engine paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine will provide 381 hp and torque of 401 pound-feet enough for serious off-roading and towing limit up to 8, 100 pounds.
The model will also employ a number of off-road components including a locking center differential, Multi-Terrain Select, Kinetic Dynamic Suspension system, hill start assist, Crawl Control, skid plates, etc.
With all off-road gear and a robust V-8 engine, the model won’t fare well on the fuel economy chart and should return 13 mpg city and 18 mpg highway.
The next generation version should swap the V-8 unit for the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 from the Lexus LS 500. This engine should come in the pair with the 10-speed automatic transmission providing around 416 hp and 442 pound-feet of torque.
