With the all-new 2020 Kia Telluride, the brand has returned to the large, three-row SUV arena after the short-lived Borrego model in 2008. Despite smaller, the new, eight-passenger Kia SUV will be alternative to the models such as the Ford Explorer, Chevy Traverse and Toyota Highlander. Kia’s near-twin model of the recently launched Hyundai Palisade will come from the production lines at Kia Motors Manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia.
The new-three row model will come with the single engine option and drivetrain setup more inclined toward the paved roads ride and with decent towing capability. The model will also get the attention with chiseled exterior design and plenty of available tech. It will also provide a range of standard safety equipment. Kia will launch the new SUV in LX, EX, S, and SX trim variants.
2020 Kia Telluride: Design
The new 2020 Kia Telluride uses a modified Sorrento underpinning which is also the base of the Hyundai Palisade. The brand’s new family hauler stretches 196, 9 inches in length and rides on the 114,2 inches long wheelbase. The width of the model is 78, 3 inches and height 68,9 inches.
The styling of the model is consistent with the brand’s newest design philosophy and the uni-body structure comes with the boxy silhouette. The model uses enlarged, signature tiger-nose grille combined with the specific, multiple LED headlights. The subtly defined fender flares and body lines forming an elegant presence and the rear gets the attention with the awkward taillights.
Inside the cabin, the Telluride comes with the standard third row of seats with the middle row with the seating positions for three. The captain’s chairs are optional.
A horizontally oriented dash design has the high-sitting center screen which measures 8 inches in the base trim and upgrades to 10.3 inches in upper grades. The base version includes 18-inch wheels, synthetic leather surfaces, five USB ports, Apple Car Play and Android Auto and number of the safety systems. The standard safety gear covers adaptive cruise control, active lane control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a driver attention monitor and automatic rear braking. The model adds surround vision cameras and blind spot monitoring optionally.
The upper trims will provide 20-inch wheels in different styles, dual sunroofs, specific styling details and grille, 10 speakers Harman Kardon audio system, navigation, leather upholstery, heated and cooled seats, etc.
2020 Kia Telluride: Performance
The 2020 Kia Telluride will have the same engine under the hood as the near-twin Hyundai Palisade model. A 3.8-liter V-6 engine provides 291 horsepower and peak torque of 262 pound-feet. In the pair with the engine is an 8-speed automatic transmission.
With the uni-body design and a four-wheel independent suspension, the large Kia SUV will provide composed on-road ride quality with the limited capability to go off-road. The front and all-wheel drive will be on the offer and the buyers can count on 5, 000 pounds of the towing capability.
The four-wheel drive system will provide several drive models for different conditions. Eco and Smart modes will shift all power toward front wheels while the snow and comfort will split 80 percent front and 20 percent to the rear. The Sport mode will engage 65 parent front and the rest will go on rear wheels.
2020 Kia Telluride: Arrival, Price
The 2020 Kia Telluride will go on the market with the limited availability this spring. The base price of the model will be $32, 735.
