Chevrolet is working on the new-generation Trax crossover SUV. The subcompact crossover was all-new for the 2015 model year and the 2020 Chevy Trax will initialize the second generation of this model. The small, high-riding Chevy model is an alternative to vehicles such as the Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade and Subaru Crosstrek.
The redesigned Chevy Trax could debut at the next New York Auto Show and it was again spotted while testing. Details about the all-new Trax are still scarce but the spy photos reveal a more aggressive styling approach. The model will also move to the new platform and integrate the latest in-car technologies. Powering the model should again be the turbocharged four-cylinder engine possibly more than one version.
2020 Chevy Trax: Platform, Design
General Motors hasn’t yet raveled details about the new 2020 Chevy Trax and the brand has more new crossovers in the progress. The redesigned Trax will, however, move to the new platform from the aging GM GAMA II architecture and as the reports suggest the solution should be the VSS setup which is GM’s new generation modular platform. There are actually several modifications of the brand’s Vehicle Strategy Set platform and the Trax should use VSS-S version for the uni-body crossovers. The VSS-F and VSS-R are the versions of the platform for the front- and rear-wheel drive cars respectively. Another design is the VSS-T platform for the body-on-frame models.
A more aggressive styling:
What is, however, obvious from the spy phots, the new Trax should arrive with more aggressive styling inspired by the recently all-new Chevy Blazer.
The new Trax will have more dynamic body lines and modern styling elements. The modern, slim headlights with the LED DRLs will be in the combination with the new grille design which should again be similar to that of the Blazer model.
The model will also have defined curves on the profile side above the fenders and on the door panels. The rear spoiler and sculpted tailgate will also have some sports flair and three will also be the new taillights.
There are no many details about the model’s interior and size. The prototype model seems a bit larger than the current Trax and the new version could provide more cubic feet of cargo space and more comfort for the passengers.
The interior design should be modern with the dynamic dash design and modern tech and comfort features. The model will integrate the new infotainment system and an array of active safety equipment.
2020 Chevy Trax: Powertrains
What the 2020 Chevy Trax will have under the hood is also the secret. The current Trax gets 138 hp and torque of 148 lb-ft from the 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The first generation Trax offers both front- and all-wheel drive with the fuel economy around 28 mpg combined.
The second-generation Trax should also use a four-cylinder engine with the turbocharger but of the unknown displacement and there could possibly be more than one version. The six-speed automatic transmission should also be replaced with the new, higher-gear-number unit.
2020 Chevy Trax: Arrival, Price
The premiere of the new 2020 Chevy Trax could be at the next New York Auto Show. The on-sale date will be later in the year with a slightly increased price.
