With the wide range of turbocharged engines including the high-mpg diesel unit, good handling, comfortable interior and several trim options, the compact Chevy Equinox is a good alternative to the well-known names like Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester and Nisan Roque. The Equinox is a fresh, well-equipped model with the expressive appearance and armed with modern safety features.
The all-new Equinox arrived for the 2018 model year much lighter and 5 inches shorter. The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox version will continue to live on the recent redesign and the refreshed model should hit the market for the 2021 model year. Chevy will likely expand the offer of the safety gear to lower grades and will also exclude the all-wheel-drive diesel-powered variant form the equipment list for the new model year.
2020 Chevrolet Equinox: Design
The Chevy Equinox is fresh- and nice-looking crossover and there won’t be styling changes on the model until the approaching mid-cycle upgrade.
The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox will reveal its identity with the split-section grille design and modern headlights when seen from the front. Chevy will use halogens, HIDs and LEDs units depending on the trim option and start the range with the 17-inch alloy wheels. Upper grades will bring 18- and 19-inch wheel options.
The Equinox will also look nice from the profile thanks to the curvy body lines which successfully hide its boxy proportions. The rear side has also defined lines and angular taillights.
Inside the cabin, the Equinox has also plenty curves on the dash and well-arranged controls. The model will also provide long-ride comfort and plenty of space in both rows. There will also be good cargo capacity with up to 63.5 cubes with the rear seats folded. With all seats up, the Equinox will offer 30 cubes for the cargo.
Buyers will also get a responsive infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto in all trims. The base version will use 7-inch center display and provide also keyless entry and ignition, wi-fi, a driver information display, six speakers, USB ports, etc.
The pricier trims will add upgraded headlights, larger wheels, nicer materials, dual zone climate control, navigation, heated seats and more. The premium features like the leather upholstery, driver memory setting, wireless charging, heated steering wheel, Bose sound system and more will also be available.
Chevy will also equip the modern safety systems and should make them more accessible than before. Available will be adaptive cruise control, active lane control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, surround view cameras and auto high beams.
2020 Chevrolet Equinox: Performance, MPG
The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox will rely on the turbocharged engines both petrol and diesel.
The standard power unit will be a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine combined with the six-speed automatic gearbox. This engine will provide 170 horsepower and torque of 203 pound-feet. When the power is sent to the front wheels, this combination will return 26 mpg city and 32 highways. Adding the power to the rear wheels also will drop fuel become to 25/30 mpg city/highway.
A next-level petrol engine will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit paired with the nine-speed automatic transmission. This unit will lift the power curve to 252 hp and torque to 260 pound-feet. The front-wheel drive and this engine will manage 22 mpg city and 29 highways. With the power on all wheels, just 1 mpg will be lost from the highway rating.
The diesel-powered Equinox will be limited just to the front-wheel drive for the new model year as Chevy axed the all-wheel-drive due to pure demand. A 1.6-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine provides 137 and 240 pound-feet of torque is available from 2,000 rpm. The front-wheel drive, diesel-powered Equinox will make the ride more economical with 28 mpg city and 39 mpg highway. The discontinued four-wheel drive diesel managed 28 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.
2020 Chevrolet Equinox: Arrival, Price
The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox should appear in the showrooms by the end of the year. Chevy hasn’t commented on the price but it shouldn’t be much different from the current. The base Equinox will again start around $24, 000. The model will cost a few thousands above $30, 000 in the best-equipped version. The diesel unit will add about $2, 400 to the price.
