If the luxury, compact crossover is on your shopping list, the 2020 BMW X3 should deficiently be considered. The responsive and sharp performance model provides also great interior room and cargo capacity. There is also a long list of standard features as well as personalization options. The turbocharged engines provide immersive performance while being fuel-efficient as well. The X3 gets also attention with its handsome appearance.
The model was all-new for the 2018 version but BMW continued with annual upgrades. For the 2020 model year, the things will remain pretty much the same for the already available versions. However, the new model year will bring another M-badged version with a high-potent inline-6 engine and available Competition pack. The new version gets also special exterior and interior treatment and has also experienced some chassis and suspension tuning.
2020 BMW X3: Design
The 2020 BMW X3 will continue with the same styling theme applied for the recent redesign. The X3 is a familiar BMW’s approach with styling present on the other models in the range.
The BMW has the newest version of the “split kidney” grille and modern LED headlights. The front bumper has a sporty flair with wide intakes and sharp character line gives it more personality. The rear is defined with big taillights and nicely fitted rear bumper.
The new M-badged version gets a more aggressive approach and comes with unique styling elements. The grille is a blacked-out version and combined with bigger bumper vents. The M version sits also lower to the ground and has a sporty diffuser, unique wheels and quad exhaust pipes. The version rides on nice-looking 20-inch wheels and Competition package switches to 21-inch units.
The interior of the model will remain a familiar form. There will be plenty of space for all passengers and up to 62.7 cubic feet of the cargo space. The model has also well-arranged and instantly recognizable controls.
The model will start with tri-zone climate control, power-adjustable front seats, driver memory setting, keyless ignition, simulated leather padding, etc. There will also be iDrive infotainment interface with a 6.5-inch center display, 12 speakers, and automatic emergency braking.
Upper grades and available packages will add larger wheels, sporty-styled bumpers, adaptive suspension dampers, upgraded brakes, a navigation system, heated and ventilated seats, heated rear seats, a 10.3-inch center screen and more. There will be additional safety systems such as lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, surround vision, etc.
The M version will use leather-treated sport bucket seats and aluminum trim. The Competition package will add premium leather upholstery in different shades. It will also include a unique gauge cluster, Wi-Fi, navigation, shift indicator, etc.
2020 BMW X3: Performance
On the performance front, the 2020 BMW X3 will start with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The entry-level engine makes 248 hp and torque of 258 pound-feet. There will be both two- and all-wheel drive with this engine and mandatory 8-speed automatic transmission. With the power on two wheels, the X3 will provide 23 mpg city and 30 highways. The all-wheel drive will earn 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highways.
The next-level performance will provide a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine combined with 8-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, sport-tuned suspension and sport exhaust system. This combination delivers 355 hp and torque of 369 pound-feet.
The newly added X3 M model has a 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged unit under the hood. The engine is tuned to deliver 473 hp and torque of 442 pound-feet. The Competition package improves to 503 hp. BMW promises 60 mph in 4.1 seconds with less potent configuration and 4 seconds with the Competition package.
The M version uses also an 8-speed automatic transmission and active dual-exhaust system. The model has also reinforced chassis at some points and M-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers. The upgraded braking system is also the part of the package with large front and rear rotors.
2020 BMW X3: Release, Price
The 2020 BMW X3 will be available in next months including the M variant. The price should again have a similar starting point from around $42, 000. With the turbo-6 engine under the hood, the price will climb to mid-$50, 000. The M-badged BMW X3 will go much higher and be available for $70, 896.
