The fourth generation of the rugged, off-road capable, two-door compact SUV, the 2019 Suzuki Jimny is a few months from the debut. Suzuki already ended the production of the current version and is in the process of retooling for the next generation Jimny. The upcoming Jimny has been caught testing on several occasions and some photos already leaked showing its styling. Now new photos appeared of the undisguised model and it is also clear now that model comes as the 2019 version, not the 2018 Jimny as was expected earlier.
Details about model’s specs are still the mystery but based on what have now, the new Jimny will stay loyal to the old-school design. Reports promise better on-road drive but the Jimny will again put the focus on the off-road capability. The interior will move upmarket and add new electronics. The powertrains should include a three- and four-pot gas units.
2019 Suzuki Jimny: Retro Style
The upcoming 2019 Suzuki Jimny will stay loyal to the old-school style and remain the rugged pint-sized SUV with the focus on the off-road.
The latest leaked images reveal the box-shaped, high-riding model with the slightly longer body than the current version. The most of panels are flat and we can only see the creases around the fenders connected with the horizontal line on the door panels.
The model also has single frame five-slot grille combined with the round headlights. The bumper integrates the fog lights and has pretty much simple design.
The new Jimny will also come with the two-tone paint job option and add more low body cladding in some options.
Based on the pictures of the interior, the new Jimny will gain some modern features and will lift the material quality but will also put the focus on the functionality. The dash gains the touchscreen infotainment display and bellow sits the large climate controls. The new steering wheel and instrument cluster also makes the difference.
The new Jimny will also include more electronic aids but more details should appear soon.
2019 Suzuki Jimny: Powertrains
The 2019 Suzuki Jimny remains the off-road-focused model and the running gear will correspond to that. The old-school ladder chassis design remains as well as the live axle suspension. The rear-wheel drive will be available and the four-wheel drive with low-range transfer case will boost the off-road capability.
As for the engine options, we still must rely on some assumptions. A small 1.0-liter three-cylinder BoosterJet petrol engine should be one of the options. The version of this engine in the Baleno and Swift makes 82 kW and 160 Nm of torque. A naturally aspirated 1.2-liter four-pot petrol unit should also be on the list. In some reports, a 0.66-liter unit is also mentioned.
2019 Suzuki Jimny: Arrival, Price
The 2019 Suzuki Jimny could make the premiere at the upcoming Tokyo Show in October. The market launch will likely be early next year. No word about the price so far but a modest increase is expected.
