Subaru has several recently redesigned crossover SUVs including the Crosstrek and Forrester but the all-new three-row Ascent is also here for the 2019 model year. The Outback is the brand’s another strong, high-riding model which also performs well on all fronts. This model provides strong off-road capability while also has a good interior capacity and fuel efficiency and all rounds up with plenty of in-car technology. The Outback received the refresh for the 2018 model year and the 2019 Subaru Outback is now closing to the launch date.
Subaru hasn’t yet disclosed the changes it has in plan for the upcoming Outback. Of course, after the recent refresh, there shouldn’t be many. Still, reports reveal that Subaru will make the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology the part of every Outback. Some reports also suggest that a new turbo-4 engine form the all-new Ascent could be the replacement for Outback’s current 3.6-liter engine.
2019 Subaru Outback: Design
With the recent refresh for the 2018 version, the Outback is in the line with brand’s new styling language and the brand won’t, of course, intervene on the exterior of the new 2019 Subaru Outback.
The last refresh made the Outback more aggressively styled. The model received the new bumpers and restyled hexagonal grille. The Outback also includes the headlights with the C-shaped signature LEDs which also wear the newest models from the range. So, Subaru won’t add many new details to the upcoming version but we should expect new colors and wheel options and possibly new exterior package.
Inside the cabin, the Outback also benefits from the last year update and no big changes are to be set for the new version. The model has the soft-touch material and nice textures inside, better than it was before the mid-update. The seats are also very good and deliver every-day comfort. The Outback also provides great head and leg room for the passengers and the cargo capacity as well. With the rear seats unfunctional, the total of 73.3 cubes is available.
The Outback also provides strong in-cabin technology and features from the base version. The Starlink infotainment system with Apple Car play and Android Auto come in all trims. Upper grades get a larger 8-inch center display, satellite radio, premium Harman Kardon sound system, etc.
The model also offers plenty active safety systems and for the new model year, the firm will equip all Outbacks with the EyeSight suite. The suite includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning. The model will also employ the blind-spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
2019 Subaru Outback: Performance
The current Outback employs two engine options and the proven all-wheel-drive capability. The continuously variable transmission is also the part of the system.
A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine makes 175 hp and torque of 174 lb-ft. With this engine, EPA rates the Outback to 32 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined which is very good.
The Outback also uses the 3.6-liter V-6 in the current version to provide better performance. This engine delivers 256 hp and 247 lb-ft o torque. However, the fuel economy drops to 22 mpg combined with this engine under the hood.
However, still unconfirmed but mentioned is the introduction of the 2.4-liter turbo-4 engine from the new Ascent as the replacement for the V-6 unit. In the Ascent, this engine produces 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.
2019 Subaru Outback: Arrival, Price
