2019 Lamborghini Urus: Platform, Design

What is not the secret, company’s first SUV after the LM002 will be based on VW’s MLB platform. This modern architecture already underpins the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga but will also be the base of the 2018 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is also expected that Lamborghini’s engineers would replace some sections made of the high-strength steel and aluminum with the lighter and stronger carbon fiber.

When it comes to the styling, the first prototype spotted in the pre-production form confirms our expectations. This model will follow very similar design philosophy as the concept model. The 2019 Lamborghini Urus prototype hides sharp and angular body design under the camo. It aslo looks bulkier than the concept model. The production version will also have an aggressive front bumper and slender headlights.

The rakish roof line and sculpted rear quarters will continue from the concept model to the production version. The L-shape taillights will also get the inspiration from the concept car. On the other hand, the production version won’t have high mounted exhaust tips like on the concept yet they will take place at the bottom of the rear bumper.

The Urus will also get the plug-in version about a year after the debut of the conventional version. The powertrain setup should be similar as in the Porsche’s Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid which can deliver 680 hp. The twin-turbo V-8 will be assisted by electric motor and power and torque should exceed the conventional version.

The Urus SUV will be the all-wheel drive only and Lamborghini will put the focus on the on-road performance. However, Lamborghini confirmed it will offer the modes for off-road conditions.
