With the compact crossover Compass, Jeep hits the sweet spot between the larger Grand Cherokee and smaller Renegade. The Compass can handle off-road drive better than most of the rivals while also offers decent cargo space and the latest in-car technologies. The model is comfortable and affordable and comes with the front-wheel-drive option while can also be equipped with off-road mechanics. The model is a great compromise between the larger and more expensive Grand Cherokee but also more capable than smaller Renegade.
The latest redesign of this model came through the midway of the 2017 model year. The redesigned Compass is the replacement for both the Jeep Patriot and the first-generation Compass. It can be had in the Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk trim options. Depending on the market buyers will get different engine options including the diesel mills. In the US, Jeep offers this model with the single engine. The 2019 Jeep Compass could bring more engine options to the US and some changes in the equipment groups.
2019 Jeep Compass: Design
With the last redesign, Jeep brought the styling of the Compass model in line with the larger Grand Cherokee. The front end adopts Grand Cherokee’s design cues with the similar contours and familiar seven-piece grille. The profile body sculpting is also more appealing to the eye and model has trapezoidal fender flares and accentuated character line. Jeep also offers this model in attractive body combinations. The Trailhawk version has the off-road oriented equipment and body enhancements for safer and better off-roading. Front and rear bumpers are designed to provide better ground clearance and model also has all-terrain tires and nice body graphics.
The 2019 Jeep Compass will not change much on its exterior or under the skin where it hides rigid, high-tensile steel structure similar to the Renegade. What Jeep will likely offer for the version are new color combinations and wheel options.
Inside the cabin, the latest Compass is up to brand’s newest design language and there won’t be notable changes as well. The model will offer the cargo capacity of 27.2 cubes and more space will be available if the rear seats are not in function.
The model will also come with the latest UConnect infotainment platform and the size of the center display will vary depending on the trim. The base version will include a 5-inch display while you will be able to upgrade to 7-inch and 8.5-inch display units. The digital instrument cluster will also be available in two forms.
The Compass will also offer leather upholstery, automatic climate control, heated front seats, unique interior accents, premium sound system, etc. For the safety of passengers, the model will also include active assistance systems like the blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, active lane control, etc.
2019 Jeep Compass: Powertrain
In its current version, the Compass is available with only one engine in the US. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder mill can produce 180 hp and torque of 175 pound-feet. The transmission options include a six-speed manual and automatic units but also a nine-speed gearbox. The front- and all-wheel drive options will be available. The Trailhawk will attack rugged terrains with the standard Active Drive Low all-wheel-drive system and nine-speed transmission. There will also be the multi-terrain select system.
In other markets, Jeep offers selected engine options. Depending on the market, the Compass can be equipped with the 1.4-lite and 2.0-liter turbo petrols. The diesels are available in 1.6- and 2.0-liter displacements. We expect Jeep to offer another engine options for the US market which will provide better performance.
2019 Jeep Compass: Arrival, Price
The 2019 Jeep Compass should go on sale in late 2018. The price will remain close to the current boundaries. The base Compass will cost around $21, 000. The price could go slightly over $30k in the most luxurious version.
