The third generation of the full-size Expedition soldiered a full decade before a long-awaited, fully redesigned eight-seater entered the production in September 2017. The all-new Expedition remains old-school, body-on-frame SUV with the underpinning borrowed again from the best-selling Ford F-150. The new generation benefits from the lightweight construction formed of boron steel and aluminum. The turbocharged V-6 engine from Ford’s fabled truck power this model while it also features sleeker exterior design and more modern and better equipped interior. The model again comes with standard and long wheelbase and buyers can pick between three trims.
To the second model year after the redesign, the 2019 Ford Expedition will enter with minimal modifications. Some changes in the trim options are possible and Ford will likely add new package options. More standard equipment is also expected. Bigger upgrades might arrive in 2019 for the 2020 model year when Ford might introduce hybridized powertrain.
2019 Ford Expedition: Styling
The 2019 Ford Expedition won’t, of course, make radical changes in its exterior styling after the 2018 model year full redesign. Ford might offer new exterior theme, new color options and wheel design.
The styling of the fourth-generation Expedition draws inspiration from the popular Explorer SUV and some elements are, of course, taken from the F-150 on which platform this model is based. The grille and headlights of the redesigned Expedition share a similar design as these elements on the face-lifted F-150. The model also has sculpted hood and raked windshield. The side panels include character lines opposed to the slab-sided previous generation.
Important for the newest generation Explorer is Ford’s lightweight T3 platform which provides better driving dynamics, application of new technologies and also reduces model’s overall weight.
Interior of the 2019 Expedition will benefit from the last redesign and Ford might add new standard features and optional packages.
The cabin of the Expedition looks classy especially in top trims and model provides great comfort and cargo space. The flat floor with two rear rows folded provides 108.3 cubes of the cargo space while Expedition MAX offers 130.8 cubes.
The Expedition will include Ford’s latest Sync infotainment platform and will also include newest driver assistance systems. There will also be plenty of luxuries in the Limited and Platinum trims plus a number of optional packages.
2019 Ford Expedition: Powertrain
The 2019 Ford Expedition will be powered by the 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine. Power this engine delivers will be 375 hp and torque 470 pound-feet. A more powerful version will deliver 400 hp and 480 pound-feet of torque in the top trim. The engine will work in the combination with Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission. The front- and all-wheel drive options will be available.
The Expedition will also exploit Ford’s terrain management system with settings for different driving conditions. For the difficult terrains and conditions, the Expedition can also rely on the two-speed transfer case and electronically controlled rear locking differential. Ford will also offer the off-road package with improved tires, suspension and axles.
2019 Ford Expedition: Arrival, Price
The 2019 Ford Expedition will arrive in the second half of 2018. The price can vary slightly from the current range. The Expedition is now available from $51, 700.
