The current-generation of the popular Ford Edge arrived for the 2015 model year. The model is based on the Ford CD4 platform like the Lincoln MKX and has been powered with three engine options. The Edge is also quick on steering and pleasant for the drive while you can also equip it with modern tech and convenience features. The last version of this model, the 2018 Edge brought only the new appearance package but the 2019 Ford Edge has been spotted while testing and the prototype version promises some revisions inside and out.
Details about the 2019 Edge are scarce and the prototype doesn’t reveal much as well. However, what we can expect is slightly revised front and rear end, updated tech and possible power and fuel economy boost thanks to the new transmission system.
2019 Ford Edge: Styling
The prototype version of the new and refreshed 2019 Ford Edge was caught while testing heavily camouflaged and we don’t have a clear insight on what has been changed on model’s styling. Thicker camo on prototype’s headlights and taillights suggesting major changes in these areas. The front should also get revised grille version and the shape of air intakes.
The profile of the model seems to continues in the same form with the pronounced character line protruding under the camo. The rear, on other hand, gets revised wraparound taillights while other changes can’t be detected at this moment.
Inside the new Edge should benefit from the updated tech and safety features. We also expect more standard features and larger center screen on the base version as well.
Other, significant changes are not expected in model’s interior. It will remain one of the most comfortable and quietest cabins in the class. The front passengers will enjoy in the supportive front seats while there will also be plenty of the space for the rear occupants. Still, with all seats up, the Edge will provide 39.2 cubes of the cargo space while when the rear seats are not in the use, you can count on 73.4 cubes.
2019 Ford Edge: Powertrain
What’s more important than updated cosmetics, the new 2019 Ford Edge should also receive some upgrades in the mechanics. The engine options should, however, remain the same. The base Edge will have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ecoboost engine under the hood. The mid-range engine will likely be the current 3.5-liter V-6 while the top-of-the-range version will carry over the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6.
However, what should make the difference is the new nine-speed automatic transmission. The current six-speed gearbox manages 250 hp with the base engine while the mid-V6 engine makes 280 hp. The most powerful 2.7-lite unit provides healthy 315 ponies. However, the more modern nine gear unit should boost power figures but also provide slightly better fuel economy. The current fuel consumption varies between 24 and 29 mpg combined depending on the engine version.
2019 Ford Edge: Arrival, Price
The updated 2019 Ford Edge should debut in early 2018. The price changes shouldn’t be radical. The current version starts from $29, 220.
