Buick’s pint-sized Encore model competes with the names such as the Audi Q3, BMW X3, Mercedes GLA, etc. The model came all-new in 2013 and it was given the mid-cycle upgrade for the 2017 version. The recent update brought restyled front and rear fascias, the redesigned dash and new infotainment system. The model delivers premium interior quality and comes in plenty of options. The ride quality is also good and buyers can choose between two versions of the 1.4-liter turbo-4 engine.
Buick hasn’t changed much on this utility vehicle for the 2018 model year. The 2019 Buick Encore should, however, address some safety faults by adding missing active systems like the adaptive cruise control, active lane control, automatic braking, etc. The new version could also introduce a new 9-speed automatic transmission which would improve its performance and efficiency. The new model year should also bring more standard features and new color options.
2019 Buick Encore: Styling
The 2019 Buick Encore won’t introduce notable visual upgrades as it was refreshed for the 2017 version. Buick will likely offer new color options and probably new exterior package with unique accents and details.
The Encore shares the Gamma II platform with the Chevy Trax and Spark. It looks nice on the road thanks to sculpted body lines but it is even better inside. The front of the model is defined with Buick’s signature grille with the winged three-shied badge and nicely accentuated headlights. It also looks nice from the profile as the strong beltline and design of the rear pillar and small rear spoiler add more visual interest.
Inside, the Encore boats attractive design and quiet ambient plus nice materials in all versions. Buyers can choose between diverse color combinations and nice contrasting elements. It is also well-equipped in all trims but its small proportions limit available space. The Encore offers 19 cubes behind the rear seats and up to 48 cubes with the folded second row.
All models will be well equipped and with brand’s IntelliLink electronics. Power driver seat, automatic headlights, LED running lights, keyless entry and ignition will also be standard features. Buick will likely add new safety equipment for the new version and we expect some of them to be standard. The model lacks automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane control while offers blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
In higher-spec versions, it will upgrade with fog lights, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, premium sound system and more.
2019 Buick Encore: Powertrains
Mechanically, the 2019 Buick Encore won’t change but save for the possible introduction of the 9-speed automatic gearbox which would improve model’s performance and fuel economy.
The base engine will remain a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This version will produce 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque in the combination with the six-speed automatic transmission. The more powerful version will deliver 153 hp and torque of 177 lb-ft. In each trim option, the model will be available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
2019 Buick Encore: Release, Price
The 2019 Buick Encore is expected in the third quarter of 2018. The price range will start at around $23, 000.
