2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid model

The third generation of the popular Porsche Cayenne comes as the 2018 model and we expect its official promotion at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Based on what we know so far, the new Cayenne promises sleeker look, improved dynamics, performance and efficiency. However, brand’s CEO Oliver Blume revealed at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show that new Cayenne will also implement a new level of hybridization by adding a new range-toping version the Turbo S E-Hybrid. Yes, the idea is the same as on the 2017 Porsche Panamera and we expect the same powertrain configuration in the new 2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid model. On the other hand, Mr. Blume also said that smaller Macan and probably the 911 won’t likely follow the same strategy even in their next generation.

2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid: Design

The prototype model of the new-generation Cayenne was spotted several times almost undisguised. This was likely the model with conventional powertrain but from the visual perspective the 2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid model won’t differ much from this version. So, the new Cayenne is expected to present sleeker styling but Porsche won’t change its design approach radically. The model should sport slightly reworked front and rear fascia and more sloped roofline. The lighting units will also feature modernized design and bumpers will also see some changes. Some pictures also showing the daytime running lights as the part of the front bumper.

On the other hand, the revolution will happen under the skin of the new Cayenne. The model will adopt VW Group’s MLB platform which started its life in the new Audi Q7. The benefits of this platform will be seen on model’s efficiency and performance thanks to improved rigidity and reduced weight. The mix of modern materials including the high-strength steel, aluminum and carbon fiber should provide about 220 pounds of reduced weight despite the model should gain stretched wheelbase.

On the other hand, from the interior, we should expect more relaxed rear leg room thanks to the longer wheelbase. The design should, however, be similar as in the new Panamera. The Cayenne will get the latest infotainment system. An improved touchscreen interface will lead to less physical controls. The safety credentials will also be improved with the addition of more active driver aids including the semi-autonomous technology.

2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid: Powertrain

When it comes to the powertrain, there should be no surprises. The 2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid model is expected to adopt the version of impressive hybrid setup from the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. In this model, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine from the Panamera Turbo S model produces 550 hp. However, the electric motor also comes in the play with the addition of 136 hp for the total output of 680 ponies. The part of the system is also a 14.1-kWh battery and an 8-speed PDK dual-clutch auto box. The all-wheel drive will be standard.

It remains to see how this Cayenne version will show in the efficiency and performance. The Panamera powered with this setup needs 3.3 seconds to hit 60 mph. Panamera’s all-electric range is around 31 miles.

The new-generation Cayenne is planned for the launch late this year. However, the ultimate 2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid model should come sometime in 2018. On the other hand, it’s hard to put the price tag on this model before we get more details. As the reference, the Panamera version costs from whopping $185, 450.
