The Mercedes GLC debuted for the 2016 model as the successor of the GLK. The model has grown wider and taller plus stretched the wheelbase for about 5 inches compared to the GLK model. It offers more room than predecessor and has more expressive styling. However, for the 2017 model year, the model evolved with the coupe-like version and also added AMG GLC 43 models for both body styles. These models are powered by the potent V-6 engine but with the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC, Mercedes is going even further by adding two new AMG branded models powered with the turbo V-8 engine.
The AMG GLC 63 will be available in both conventional and coupe variants plus the more powerful coupe S version. On the other hand, the conventional versions should come with minimal changes.
2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Design
The base GLC300 and sportier AMG GLC 43 won’t come with big changes on their exterior styling. Both look expressive but the later in a more aggressive way. The GLC 43s have the unique grille and more aggressive bumpers, sportier wheels and exhaust setup. However, the new AMG-branded 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC will improve on that with even more style and aggressiveness.
Up front, the models will have the macho Panamericana grilles with vertical slats and more sculpted front fenders will also add to models’ aggressive appearance. The presence of the new models will also be highlighted with flared fenders and rear will add the rear diffuser and quad exhaust setup.
The styling will be further enhanced with the standard 19-inch wheels while the Coupe S version will ride on the 20-inch by default. The 21-inch wheels will come as the option.
Inside the cabin, the new AMG models will also get special treatment. The sports seats are standard in these versions and come in the combination with the microsuede and aluminum trim. The AMG-specific are also gauges and controls.
The buyers of the V-8 powered models will also get the options like several leather options, Carbon Fiber Exterior package, night package and more.
2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Performance options
Between the front fenders of the new AMG-branded 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC models, the brand will place 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. The specs of this engine are impressive with 469 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque at disposal. However, the GLC63 S variant reserved for the Coupe version only can do it even better. This model with this engine under the hood will be capable of delivering 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
Mercedes claims that models with the V-8 twin-turbo will need just 3.9 seconds to hit 60 mph. However, the S signed version will down that time to 3.7 seconds.
The GLC63 models also have upgraded 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system combined with AMG’s nine-speed automatic transmission, air suspension, and four drive modes. The limited-slip differential is also standard feature but the S version gets electronically controlled version.
The base GLC300 will return with the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine. The power and torque figures will likely stay at the current levels. This version will offer rear-wheel drive.
The AMG GLC43 models will have a 3.0-liter turbo-boosted V-6 engine under the hood. The power it delivers is 362 hp and torque 385 lb-ft.
2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Arrival, Price
The new 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC should arrive late this year or early next year. The price of the currently available versions should stay close to the current boundaries. The new GLC63 models should start near $70k.
