The new generation of Lincoln’s largest and most expensive SUV will enter into production this year. The production of the new 2018 Lincoln Navigator will take place at the Kentucky Track Plant in Louisville and model should go on sale by 2018. We don’t have all specifics about the new-gen Navigator but the Lincoln Concept which was presented at the last New York Auto Show give us the idea how the production version should look and what features should offer.
New for 2018:
The new Navigator is again expected to offer seats for up to eight passengers and to come in standard or long wheelbase. It should remain body-on-frame design as the new Expedition and will adopt very similar look as the Navigator Concept model. Upgraded powertrain and interior design will also come with the latest tech and safety features.
2018 Lincoln Navigator: Design
Nothing has officially been said about the design of the new 2018 Lincoln Navigator, but we don’t have any doubt that new model will feature largely identical look as the Lincoln Navigator Concept. The Continental sedan moved to production with the almost identical look that was previewed on Continental Concept and the same should be with the new Navigator.
The full-size SUV will, like the new Continental and MKZ, adopt brand’s new face with the mesh grille that replaces split-wing design. The headlight should look similar as on the Concept model. The same we expect with the full-width design of the taillights. Body sculpting should also get inspiration from the Navigator Concept. We hope that attractive design of the wheels will also move from the Concept version to the production.
On the other hand, what we should not expect on the production versions are the fold-down staircase and gullwing doors.
As for the interior design, we should also expect to mimic the Concept model. Uncluttered dash, modern instrument panel and many screens should also be seen in the production version. The piano-like gear selection might also go to production. However, we will get seven or eight seating arrangement like on the current version and not six-seater layout from the concept.
The new Navigator will also get the latest infotainment and safety features. The lane keeping assist, surround-view cameras, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and more active safety systems will be available in the new Navigator.
2018 Lincoln Navigator: Powertrain, Platform
Under the hood of the new 2018 Lincoln Navigator will again sit the 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine. The current model gets 380 hp and torque of 460 pound-feet. However, the new version of this twin-turbocharged and direct injected engine might produce more than 400 hp.
This new Navigator will also use Ford’s new 10-speed automatic transmission instead of the current six-speed unit. It should also adopt Ford’s new platform and possibly aluminum body panels like the new Expedition.
With Lincoln’s continuously controlled damping and adjustable steering, the new Navigator will provide the smoother ride.
2018 Lincoln Navigator: Arrival, Price
The new-gen 2018 Lincoln Navigator will arrive in the second half of this year. The price should not go far from the current range.
