2018 Honda HR-V: Upgrades, Specs, Safety, Price

With the HR-V, Honda entered the subcompact crossover race with the rivals like the Mazda CX-3, Jeep Renegade and Chevy Trax. The new 2016 Honda HR-V is based on the Fit hatchback and sits bellow the popular CR-V in brand’s lineup. This model features highly flexible interior and comfortable seats. The HR-V also delivers better fuel economy than most of the rivals and impressive list of standard features as well. The next version of this model will be the 2018 Honda HR-V which is expected to come with some but not radical changes.

New for the 2018 model:

The HR-V is the relatively new model in Honda’s lineup and it should enter the new model year with some incremental upgrades. Honda hasn’t revealed details about the new HR-V but according to some sources, the upcoming HR-V should upgrade tech and safety features. It is also possible that new trim level will be available. However, structurally and mechanically, the model should continue pretty much in the same form.

This Honda Fit-based crossover has the styling which stands out from others in the class. It doesn’t have the same styling DNA with the Fit hatchback but it shares many similarities with the larger CR-V. The front fascia is designed in accordance with Honda’s latest design philosophy and there we should see only mild changes for the new model year.

The profile side of the model features pronounced fenders and beltline while the roofline is arched in the way which provides more headroom. For the new model year, the HR-V won’t change from this perspective expect Honda could offer the new wheels set. Other changes could include the new color options.

Interior, Features:

Inside, the HR-V will provide a high level of flexibility and the rear seat comfort is among the best in the class. The front passengers will also enjoy in well-shaped and supportive seats while the driving position and visibility are also great.

The material and build quality will also be according to Honda’s high standards and what also possible the Honda will get the new topping trim.

The base versions will include the tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, HondaLink infotainment touchscreen, cloth upholstery, etc.

The next EX trim will upgrade with the heated front seats, keyless entry and ignition, automatic climate control, automatic headlights, more speakers, etc.

The leather upholstery, navigation, HD radio and more will be available in the EX-L trim. However, as we said earlier, Honda could add the new range-topping trim which will include more luxurious features.

What is also expected, 2018 Honda HR-V will upgrade the current level of safety features with more active safety aids. We expect at least adaptive cruise control and emergency braking.

2018 Honda HR-V: Powertrains

Powering the 2018 Honda HR-V will be the current engine version but Honda might also add a new engine option. However, Honda hasn’t announced the new engine option but some sources suggest that possibility.

The 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine which is currently the only engine option will likely return in the same form. This unit can produce 141 hp and 127 pound-feet of torque. The manual transmission should again be available but the continuously variable transmission will be the better option.

The HR-V will be available with both front- and all-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive HR-Vs with the CVT will return fuel economy which is among the best in the class with 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.

The release date of the 2018 Honda HR-V should be this fall. The price will likely a bit higher but the HR-V will remain the price competitive.
