With the rugged, full-size truck underpinning and capable V-8 engine, the GMC Yukon is surely capable of towing great loads as well as going on off-road terrains. However, with the extreme, truck-like capability this vehicle is also perfect family hauler and up to nine passengers will enjoy in its refined and comfortable interior. This model is also equipped with the latest tech and safety features while its Denali version brings the high-luxury to its users. The Yukon was redesigned for the 2015 model year together with its corporate twin Chevy Tahoe. The next version comes as the 2018 GMC Yukon and we don’t expect radical cuts.
New for 2018:
In its current form, the Yukon owns pretty much everything in terms of modern tech and safety features. Its attractive and clean interior is the good place to be in while strong engines can haul heavy loads and provide enough passing power.
GM hasn’t said what it has in plans with this model but big changes are not expected. Some styling updates and equipment regrouping are expected plus new exterior theme. We hope that like in the smallest Terrain, GM could surprise us with the diesel engine option.
2018 GMC Yukon: Design
Like the current version, the 2018 GMC Yukon will be easily recognized as the GMC’s vehicle because of its familiar grille design but the squared-off body is also something that can’t be mistaken for the something else.
However, for the new model year, the Yukon should get the refreshed headlights with the attractive signature lighting. The tweaks around the grille and front bumper should also refresh its face. On its rear side, we should also see the tweaked taillights and bumper.
More brightwork, signature grille and unique 20-inch alloys will be seen on the Yukon Denali.
Inside, the model will provide more than just enough space while the quality of materials will also be above the average in the segment. The visibility will also be good despite its large proportions but rear view camera and parking sensors will also assist while maneuvering.
The comfort of seats will also be good and well-arranged controls will be easy to reach and use. The model will also include the latest tech and safety feature. But the Denali trim will provide an exceptional level of luxury.
All versions will have roof rails, assist steps, remote keyless ignition and entry, automatic wipers, parking sensors, power front seats, tri-zone climate control, etc. The latest version of the IntelliLink infotainment system will keep you connected. The advanced safety features like the forward collision warning with the low-speed automatic braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist will also be available in the base trim.
Upgrades in higher trims will include leather upholstery, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic, premium sound system, heated seats, upgraded suspension, unique trim accents and much more.
2018 GMC Yukon: Powertrains
Under the hood of the 2018 GMC Yukon, we expect to see the 5.3-liter V-8 engine. In the current version, it produces 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The transmission will likely remain the six-speed automatic. The 8-speed automatic transmission, currently only available on the Denali models, should become accessible in lower trims.
The more powerful 6.2-liter V-8 should also be available. The power it delivers should be around 420 hp and torque around 460 lb-f. It will come in the combination with the 8-speed gearbox by default.
This model will also be available with the rear-wheel drive as well as with the all-wheel drive. With the power on all wheels will also be available the two-speed transfer case with low range gearing.
The EPA ratings should be around 19 mpg average for the base engine option. A more powerful powertrain will be slightly less frugal. The towing limit should be around 8, 500 pounds.
The diesel engine is also the possibility. But, that would be known closer to the launch date.
2018 GMC Yukon: Arrival, Price
The 2018 GMC Yukon should arrive by the end of this year. The price range should start just below $50, 000.
