While we expected that Ford will go with some styling and interior tweaks and new transmission option for 2018 Ford Edge, the brand only announced the Sport Appearance Package which will be available with the midline SEL trim. This Package for the SEL trim brings darkened 19-inch wheels, grille, mirror caps, and rear skid plates. Inside this trim will include cloth seats with brown suede inserts and contrasting stitching. On the other hand, Ford hasn’t revealed upgrades for other versions in the lineup and they will mostly continue with minor modifications. In that context, the range-topping 2018 Ford Edge Sport should return in the familiar form and with familiar enhancements.
2018 Ford Edge Sport: Styling
Ford Edge is attractive mid-size SUV styled with sharp and straight lines. Well-proportioned and with Ford’s familiar styling elements, this mid-size crossover SUV looks agiler than most of its rivals.
The 2018 Ford Edge Sport will, however, get some enhancements which will furthermore emphasize its sports character. The model will have uniquely accentuated grille flanked by the halogen Projector-style headlamps with unique appearance treatment. The body-colored bumper and lower cladding will be complemented with the body-colored mirror caps and door handles. Body-colored rear spoiler and pair of trapezoidal exhaust tips will also improve its appearance.
The Sport version will also get the standard 20-inch wheels which will have an alternative in 21-inch aluminum wheels.
Inside, the Edge Sport will look expensive and will be comfortable and well-equipped. A 10-way power and heated bucket seats come by default and trimmed with the leather upholstery, suede inserts and unique perforation. Driver’s seat memory will also be a standard feature while heated and cooled front and heated rear seats will be optional. The model will also feature dual-zone electronic climate control, ambient lighting, aluminum pedal covers, leather covered shift knob, etc.
The Sync3 infotainment system will likely come with the 8-inc touchscreen and 10-speaker Sony sound system. Available will also be power and heated steering wheel, all-weather floor liners and number of advanced safety aids. The list will include forward collision warning with brake support, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot system with cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, active parking assist, etc.
2018 Ford Edge Sport: Powertrain
The 2018 Ford Edge Sport will have sport tuned, independent front and rear suspension combined with the intelligent all-wheel drive. The model will also have responsive electric power-assisted steering and torque vectoring control.
The power for this model will come from the 2.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine. It should provide similar power and torque levels as the current version. It means around 315 hp and torque of 350 lb-ft. The transmission system should remain a six-speed automatic despite some sources suggested a new transmission unit.
With the same power hardware, the fuel economy should also stay around 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway.
2018 Ford Edge Sport: Arrival, Price
The new 2018 Ford Edge Sport should arrive this fall. The price of this model with the standard equipment package should be from around $40, 500.
