2018 Dodge Journey: Possible Redesign, Changes, Price

Classified as the mid-size crossover SUV, the Dodge Journey goes on the rivals such as the Ford Escape, Chevy Equinox, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V. It is also available outside the US as the Fiat Freemont. This model is one of the most affordable crossovers with seven seats but at the same time is also one of the oldest vehicles presently available on the market. That is why; the redesign of this model has already been expected for a few years. In that context, the 2018 Dodge Journey should bring a long-anticipated redesign.

At this moment, there is no official information about the new Journey and its redesign. The 2017 model year was marked as the possible redesign-year but model brought a new top GT trim and no substantial changes. It was also reported for discontinuation but being still a good-seller the brand has the interest to invest in this model. So, the 2018 Journey might come as the fully redesigned model but it is yet to be confirmed.

The redesign should fix some main issues and also boost its current qualities. The model should bring the list of common safety systems that currently missing in this model. Styling changes and interior upgrade are also expected. The model should also improve the fuel economy and ride quality and therefore improved powertrains should also come.

2018 Dodge Journey: Design Changes

The current version of the Journey sits on the platform that is sourced from the Mitsubishi and can be found on its several models. It also underpins the last iteration Chrysler 200 but this model should face with discontinuation after the 2017 model. So, it isn’t clear would the Journey shift to the new platform or not. Some sources suggest that but we are still waiting for confirmation. However, in any scenario, this model should bring some improvement in that context. The result should be improved rigidity of its structure as well as reduced weight. That will lead to the better fuel economy and improved performance.

On the other hand, the 2018 Dodge Journey should also bring revised styling. It will likely continue to exploit signature crosshair grille’s design but it should get new a form. Reshaped and modernized headlights and reworked front bumper should also bring a new expression to its appearance.

Some changes should also be notable on its sheetmetal design as well as on the read end.

Interior of the new Journey should again come in five and seven-seat configurations. The model should also upgrade the quality of materials and available features but in the way which won’t change its price radically. More standard features and better build quality will give it better chances in the crowded crossover segment.

The safety is an aspect where the Journey has to make big stride forward. In its current form, it lacks some common safety features and the new model must fix it. So, we expect that it will add an array of advanced features like lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and more.

2018 Dodge Journey: Performance

The new 2018 Dodge Journey should bring some substantial changes in its powertrain lineup. Nothing so far has been said about this but this model definitely needs improvements in the fuel economy and performance.

The current base engine is a 2.4 liter four cylinder unit. It delivers 173 hp and torque of 166 pound-feet. It provides a weak acceleration and four-speed gearbox is outdated. The V-6 engine is a more solid option. It can produce 283 hp and torque of 260 lb-ft. It comes with a six-speed transmission and fuel economy is 19 mpg combined.

So, the new Journey should introduce some improvements in this regard. A new base engine and improved V-6 should bring improvements in both performance and fuel economy. It is also possible an inclusion a new nine-speed transmission.
