The Chevy Bolt EV is the subcompact, 5-door hatchback with the electric powertrain. The all-new Bolt EV arrived as the 2017 model at the affordable price and as the first mass-production electric vehicle with the range of 200+ miles. However, the Bolt is also a nicely styled electric car with well-used interior space and the latest equipment. The model went on the sale in November 2016. The next version, 2018 Chevy Bolt EV won’t bring major upgrades.
Chevrolet will likely make some equipment reorganization and we should expect more standard features. New colors and possibly additional trim option could also be on the offer.
2018 Chevy Bolt EV: Design
The new 2018 Chevy Bolt EV won’t bring substantial changes on model’s exterior styling and what we should expect are the new color options, new wheel design and possibly new exterior theme.
Otherwise, the Chevy Bolt will remain nicely sculpted hatchback interesting for the eye and fun to drive. The model has the shape of the tall hatch but perfectly sculpted lines give it a sportier appearance. The front end includes the plate-like grille similar to the Chevy Volt while the profile look benefits front the rising character line. The rear spoiler, attractive taillights and sculpted rear bummer make it interesting to see from the behind.
Inside, the Bolt is very functional and comfortable considering its subcompact proportions. The seat and ride comfort is good and model provides 16.9 cubes of the cargo capacity with all seat in function. The model also has well-arranged and easy to use control and also provides the latest infotainment system with smartphone features. The dashboard includes 8-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.2-inch center screen with easy to use interface.
The base Bolt models will ride on 17-inch wheels and will also include LED DRLs, keyless entry and ignition, cloth seat upholstery, automatic climate control, etc. The base LT version will also offer the options like the heated front seats, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross alert, sensors for the parking, etc.
The Premier version will upgrade with the leather seats, heated rear seating, parking camera system, premium sound system, etc. For the extra money, the buyers will also get the safety systems like the lane departure warning, forward collision warning with the pedestrian detection and low-speed braking, etc.
2018 Chevy Bolt EV: Powertrain, Mileage
The 2018 Chevy Bolt EV will have the same powertrain as the current version and likely the same drive range.
The Bolt induces the 200-hp electric motor powering the front wheels. The under-floor battery is the 60-kWh lithium-ion pack which according to EPA provides the rage of 238 miles.
When it comes to the recharging, the Level 2 Charging Station (240-Volt) will provide about 25 miles per charging hour. So, you will get about 50 miles in about 2 hour which is above the average daily mileage. The full recharge will take about 9 hours. The Bolt also has the DC fast charging option which should provide about 90 miles for about 30 minutes. The Level 1 charger will recharge about 4 miles per hour.
2018 Chevy Bolt EV: Arrival, Price
The 2018 Chevy Bolt EV is expected in early 2018. The price should again start from around $36, 600.
