Toyota’s mega-successful, RAV4 model received the full makeover for the 2019 model year. The fifth generation RAV4 is based on the new platform, more aggressively styled and more comfortable inside. The new tech features are also available and Toyota claims better off-road capability.
Toyota’s top-selling nameplate will also introduce the hybrid model early next year and after that, the 2020 Toyota RAV4 will come with minimal changes in the equipment organization and few new options.
2020 Toyota RAV4: Design
The popular RAV4 model switched to the new TNGA platform and with the improved structural rigidity this unit also provides better weight distribution. The new generation RAV4 is slightly shorter than the version it replaced but with the shorter overhangs and longer wheelbase, it improved the rear-seat comfort. The model is also a hair wider than before.
The 2020 Toyota RAV4 will come essentially unchanged after the recent redesign and new color options will appear with the possibility of the new special edition version.
The styling of the model will also stay intact until the next mid-update. The fifth generation RAV4 has more aggressive appearance thanks to the more sculpted lines. The redesigned front fascia with the new grille insert also contributes to the style. The chiseled profile also improves the impression and the sharp lines also adds to the aerodynamics. The model also has an angular rear end and modern taillights.
The RAV4 also introduced the redesigned interior with the last year makeover and the 2020 version won’t have to bring anything new. The model has nice dash design and the interior also follows the exterior with the sharp lines.
The newest infotainment system will also be the part of the model’s portfolio with the 7-inch touchscreen in the base version sitting high on the dash. The upper-grade versions will get a larger 8-inch center display as well as the digital instrument cluster. Both options will support Apple Car Play, Amazon Alexa, Wi-Fi antenna etc.
The model will also offer high-quality materials, power liftgate, moonroof, JBL sound system, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats and much more.
The RAV4 will also be generously equipped with advanced safety systems. The standard systems will include auto high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, pedestrian detection and active lane control. The safety upgrades will add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic braking and surround-vision cameras.
2020 Toyota RAV4: Powertrains
The 2020 Toyota RAV4 will offer both the non-electrified and hybrid powertrain. There will be a standard front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive system will boost the power distribution between the axles and between the wheels with the torque vectoring system. Adding to the models’ capability will also be the various traction control modes.
The base engine will be the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine in the combination with the 8-gear automatic transmission. The hybrid will combine the continuously variable transmission and the battery pack positioned behind the rear seats.
The hybrid version should bring better performance and fuel economy but remains to wait for Toyota to reveal precise details.
2020 Toyota RAV4: Arrival, Price
Honda hasn’t yet revealed the price of the RAV4 but expect a slight increase compared to the current version. The 2020 Toyota RAV4 will go in sale in late 2019.
