The Subaru Crosstrek is a great overall package capable of going off-road while being comfortable on road. The model provides also good cargo and passengers space and comes with a long list of safety tech. The Crosstrek is aimed at buyers that need above than average off-road capability and should be considered as an alternative to models like Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Jeep Renegade and Patriot, Chevy Trax but could also replace Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3.
The Impreza-derived model was all-new for the 2018 model year and changed the equipment availability for the 2019 version. The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek will also arrive with the revised features availability and the hybrid version will also join the lineup may be as the part of the 2019 model. There won’t be other notable upgrades before the mid-cycle update which should be for the 2021 model year.
2020 Subaru Crosstrek: Performance
With the 8.7 inches of ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive, the Subaru Crossrek provides better than average off-road performance.
The second generation Crosstrek introduced for 2018 relies on the 2.0-liter flat-4 engine which can be combined with either 6-speed manual or CVT options. The engine makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. When combined with the manual gearbox EPA rates this combo at 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. When used with the CVT, the flat-4 engine returns 27 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.
The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek should also appear with the plug-in hybrid option or Subaru might add this variant to the equipment list of the 2019 version. The electrified version will use a detuned, 137-hp flat-4 engine mixed with two electric motors and 8.8-kWh battery. One electric motor behaves as starter and generator while the second electric motor is the traction unit with 118-hp output. The combined output of the system should be 148 hp and electric all-electric range 17 miles. The combined range should be around 35 mpg.
Subaru hasn’t mentioned that the Crosstrek is a candidate for the 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that comes with the redesigned Outback. This engine combined with the continuously variable transmission makes 260 hp and peak torque of 277 pound-feet.

The Subaru Crosstrek will use 17- and 18-inch wheels.
Inside the cabin, the Corsstrek is both comfortable and modern. The controls are well-organized and easy to use. The maximum cargo space isn’t the class-best but 55.3 cubic feet aren’t bad at all. With the rear seats functional the available cargo room is 20.8 cubes.
The model will also be generously equipped. The standard features will include EyeSight suite with systems like lane keeping assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. A rearview camera is there by default and other standard goodies include driver information display, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, four speakers, Apple Car Play and Android Auto support, power features, etc.
